FREE OIL DRUMS TO ARTISTS OF ALL CREATIVE DISCIPLINES
More than 100 used but safe and nontoxic oil drums will be delivered in June to a central location in New York City for pick up by artists who have submitted an application.
Artists of all creative disciplines will have three months to create their provocative statement in any medium -- painting, sculpture, mixed media, music, architecture, video, kinetic, printmaking, photographic, ceramic, stained glass, performance, literature, etc.
The drum must be an intrinsic part of the artwork.
The drum is free while the supply lasts. If you obtain your own drum it must be certified safe and nontoxic in writing.
If juried into the exhibit there is a $25 installation fee.
The jurist will be announced in June.
Cash prizes will be awarded.
Most available drums are closed and some are open-top.
The steel drum is 34-inches high and 22-1/2-inches in diameter.
Closed drums weighs about 34-pounds.
Open-top drums weigh about 28-pounds
The steel is 18-guage on the sides and 16-guage on top and bottom
The exterior is generally black enamel.
